Revitalizing West Park Drive: Timeless Bathroom Transformations

Breathing new life into tired spaces is always an exciting challenge. Our recent project on West Park Drive focused on updating the four bathrooms while preserving the home's original character and Mid-Century Modern (MCM) charm.

Embracing Existing Elements

The solid wood vanities in each bathroom, with their no-frills MCM style, were diamonds in the rough. After careful consideration and consultation with our contractor, we decided to refurbish all of them, rather than replace. A thorough cleaning, priming, and paint job transformed these pieces, proving that sometimes, the best solution is right in front of us.

Here are some of the BEFORE images.

Here are some of the AFTER images.

Master Bathroom Metamorphosis

The master bathroom presented a unique opportunity for transformation:

  • Replaced a dated, sunken tub and floor-to-ceiling mirror (YIKES!)

  • Introduced a large, frosted picture window for privacy and natural light

  • Updated the shower area for a fresh, clean look

  • Repainted the vanities, medicine cabinets

  • Added new countertops, sinks, faucets and hardware

Timeless Design Choices

Our selections aimed to create a cohesive, timeless aesthetic:

  • Black faucets and black-and-brass combinations for lighting, mirrors, and hardware

  • Variety of tile styles: subway tiles in different sizes, penny and hexagon tiles

  • Flooring ranging from soft white neutrals with darker grouting to large gray-veined white ceramic tiles

  • Marble subway tiles in an offset stack for the master shower, complemented by marble basket weave flooring

Preserving Character

In the Jack and Jill bathroom, we retained the original cast iron tub, resurfacing it to match new subway tile surrounds. This decision provided a cost-effective solution that served well for five years.

Looking Ahead

It is hard to believe that we have been in this house for over five-years! There are some projects on the list:

  • Converting the Jack and Jill tub to a walk-in shower

  • Adding character to the tiny guest bathroom

Our goal remains consistent: to update seamlessly, ensuring each space evolves while honoring the home's original character. Stay tuned for our next chapter in this ongoing renovation journey!
