Our Groovy Ranch Style Home
It was the last day of school, and as I wrapped up my First Grade classroom, I eagerly anticipated the relaxing summer ahead. That evening, I jumped into my jammies early and started scrolling on my phone, just because I could. Around 10 PM, I stumbled upon a home listing that caught my eye. Despite being ready for bed, I convinced my hubs, Keith, to jump in the car with me to check out this “beauty.” I’m always up for a design endeavor and with my real estate license current, it was a tempting prospect.
With both of our parents aging and our current home only having upstairs guest rooms, their visits had become less frequent. I had been looking for a one-story redo closer to historic downtown McKinney, Texas that would better accommodate our senior guests. It was really just a thought, a dream for someday “when I had more time,” but one look at this groovy home, untouched since the 70s, seemed to be just right.
A few days later, with Keith in Africa on a mission trip, I negotiated the deal, and the house was ours. When I finally talked to him to share the news, considering the 8-hour time difference between Kenya and McKinney, he said something along the lines of, “You bought a freaking house while I’m halfway across the world? Are you serious?”
“Yes. Yes, I did!”
And so, the adventures began… or maybe they just continued, at a different address, of course! Follow along for more before-and-afters and all the problem-solving opportunities in between. Life is a journey, so why not try and make it pretty?! :). . .
Curious, would you take on this kind of redo? . . .
