Painted Walls: Innovative Solutions for Stunning Design
Adding paint can be an affordable way to add character and interest to a wall, a ceiling or a room. With the resurge of wallpaper style, a well painted pattern can be a reasonable alternative to add style without the permanence, hassle or the hefty cost of wallpaper installation.
Several years ago, I was looking for some options to update LaurenKate’s room. Her room had been freshly painted a neutral color but I wanted to add a little interest without a ton of hassle. I was not finding a wallpaper that felt right and I did not want the mess of floating a wall and paying for installation. So, I called on a local artist, Heather Bloeme (@heatherbloeme and www.heatherbloeme.com.) I explained my vision with Heather and sent her some pictures of the room. She made a sketch of ideas and asked for my input. After talking through a few tweaks, she created the perfect design. The plans were in motion for her to bring that vision from paper to life.
I love how Heather unified the space by keeping the background wall color the same and added interest with the oversized floral pattern that coordinates with the statement pillow. The bold charcoal pattern added appeal without overstating or dating the room. This was important to me as this can sometimes act as the guest room when LaurenKate is away at college. I needed it to feel fresh and inviting.
Heather has since done some other projects for me with local clients and her instagram is full of her talented inspiration.
Not only does Heather paint walls and ceilings, but many personalized things such as wine bottles, beautiful ornaments, home sketches and so much more. She created this beautiful rendering for a new meeting and event venue I worked with here in McKinney. The original sketch, framed and displayed within the building, inspired Heather to incorporate a small image into the grand opening invitations, adding a classic yet personalized touch.
Searching out the hidden talents of people all around you can deliver big on affordable, one of a kind design. I would love to hear how local artists have inspired you in your home!
